February Snow, What Do You Know

After the huge snowstorm we had in December, no one thought we would see more snow this winter but we were wrong. Eugene got hit with another round of snow that lasted for five days and kept the kids out of school again. With all the snow we lost one of our two weeks for spring break but better there then staying an extra week at the end of the year.

M took the girls out to their school to go sledding down hills. There was only one sled so K tried using a plastic bag to slide down the hill on. It didn't work too well.

She then tried to stand up inside of the bag and go down the hill. That worked about as well as you would expect.
The neighbors came over to play one day. They built a fort so they could have a snowball fight with M and hide behind it. That strategy didn't work so well. M would get HUGE snowballs and throw them over the fort onto the girls. There was some crying (only by my girls, luckily) but they eventually got M back.
L even tried to throw snowballs at me but I was safe behind the sliding glass door.
After the snowball fight they built Olaf the Snowman. He was very cute and much larger than the original from the movie Frozen.
When it started to thaw from the sun it would just freeze as ice on everything because the temperatures were still so cold. A lot of people lost power due to downed trees and power lines. Luckily we didn't experience any of that.
We took the girls to another school and let them play with all the ice on Saturday. They enjoyed breaking off large pieces and then shattering them on the ground.
At one point K was sitting on a large pile of snow which was coated in ice. After a couple of seconds she broke through the ice. She thought it was the funniest thing.
This was by far the best winter snow I have experienced while living in this state. We broke records for snow fall and low temperatures. They hadn't seen that much snow in over 50 years and the temperatures were in the teens during the day. It reminded me so much of growing up in Missouri and the snow we had there. I don't think the girls will forget these memories for some time.
