Zoo Trip 2010

On Thursday we picked up Grandma and headed to the Portland Zoo. It was overcast and a little cool, but it made for great animal voyeurism. Everyone else must have agreed because when we arrived at 11 am it was packed. Luckily we found a parking spot near the Children's Museum and were able to walk right in with the tickets I had purchased online thanks to my mother-in-laws suggestion.
This zoo has grown and evolved so much over the years. It isn't a huge, but it is well laid out and the exhibits are wonderful. It makes it easy to go and spend a few hours with your kids without getting exhausted.
We started out viewing the bears in the Great Northwest exhibit and worked our way around the zoo. L's favorite animals were the bears and the giraffe.

K's favorite animals were the goats and penguins. She really enjoyed brushing and petting the goats.

Grandma and I loved the polar bears and the sea lions. We couldn't get over how big the polar bears paws were or how cute the sea lions were.

After looking at all the animals we took a ride on the Oregon Steam Locomotive. L was so excited every time she saw the train going around the zoo that we thought she would enjoy going for a ride. She was, however, very afraid to get on and we had to force her through the door. Once inside the car, she was content to sent on grandma's lap. We were surprised at how long the ride was; it lasted for about 30 minutes. We went through the woods all around the zoo and saw only a few of the animals, but it was a very relaxing trip.

Towards the end of the ride L finally got off grandma's lap.

We were in the second to last car.
It was such a cute train; I loved hearing the horn and bell.

  1. Haha! Bethany and I took the kids on the train a couple of years ago. We had to park at the rose gardens because the others were full, so we had to catch the train to the zoo. Josh refused to get on the train. He resisted with all he had so I eventually just hoisted him on. He yelled and screamed and sat on my lap for most of the trip. Fun memory.
