Home Alone

This year both of our girls are in school full time and I wasn't sure what I would do with myself at home alone all day. M wanted me to start working but finding a job that allows me to be off when kids are sick, to go on field trips and to be off when the kids are off from school seemed unrealistic. I was, however, able to find a part-time job that did just that. I am working for the girls school as a substitute Educational Assistant.

They call me by 6:45am the day that they need me and if I am available I work. The job entails any number of things from recess supervision to teaching small groups of kids who need extra help with reading and math. I enjoy this job so much! I get to spend time getting to know the teachers and students at the girls school, I get to see my girls throughout the day, and most importantly, I get to help children in need. It feels to good when a student you have been teaching grasps a concept or improves immeasurably in a subject they used to have trouble with!

The only down side of this job is never knowing until the day of if you are working. It makes planning your days a little hard. I'm enjoying it so much that I am looking for a permanent part-time job with the school. It would be nice to always know my schedule and the extra income is nice.

The girls are excited to see me when I am at work. They always run up and give me a big hug! It makes me feel good to know they like seeing me at work and aren't afraid to show it.
